Short Story

United States

I am Asra, an American from Dallas TX advocating on behalf of my friend Bilal Ahmed Hamad Abu Hamad ( ig: blalabwhmd16 ) from Gaza, Palestine. Bilal is a husband, a father of three beautiful little girls (one of which is in infant) and is also caring for his elderly mother.

Since the beginning of the genocide, Bilal has been forced to move his family from territory to territory and is currently between an open-air tent with no furnishings, water or floor and an abandoned building (which is dangerous as buildings are often targets of tanks and bomber planes). They have no way out except through our generous donations. Bilal and his family urgently need your help to escape Gaza. Any funds rasied are strictly for survival until they can be used for evacuation and travel out of Gaza, once the borders open again.

Your donation is the deciding factor between life or death for this family. Our power is in numbers, so please consider donating an amount equivalent to a cup of coffee, a negligible cost that will feel like nothing for you, but mean everything to them. If you are unable to donate, I encourage you to share this link with your loved ones and on social media. Together we can make a difference for this family.

This is an extension of the GFM campaign I had opened for this family. We have decided to move it to chuffed for the following reasons:

Please continue to support this family. I hope to follow their journey after this genocide. I hope to see them survive.

FAQs:

How does this family receive my donation?

Every 500-1000 collected, I transfer the money to Bilal via a direct international bank transfer to the Bank of Palestine. My bank charges me a 40 wire fee to make this transfer. There is no fee free way to send this money because Palestinians cannot directly connect their bank accounts to campaign platforms.

What about aid organizations? Why should I contribute to mutual aid?

Many families like Bilal do not have access to aid. The aid coming into Gaza is very limited and there are few controls allowing it’s fair distribution. Mutual aid campaigns like this one enable Bilal to have the buying power to provide for his family. There is not enough aid to meet families needs during these times of famine.

What is my money going towards?

Food, water, displacement (starting over with nothing after each one), medication, internet access…. survival. Eventually evacuation, but right now as borders have been closed since May, all money is being prioritized for basic needs which are at astronomical prices. For example, through GFM 8000 was collected over a span of 6 months. All of it has gone to survival.
